Both glazed and unglazed, natural terracotta tiles are suitable for use in steam showers. However, there are some key differences between the two types of tiles that you should be aware of.

Glazed tiles do not need to be sealed, or only very rarely. This is because the glaze acts as a barrier to moisture and prevents water from penetrating the tile. Unglazed natural terracotta tiles, on the other hand, will need to be sealed every 12-18 months. This is because the natural terracotta is porous and will absorb moisture over time.

In terms of which type of tile is the best choice for a steam shower, it really depends on your personal preferences. If you are looking for a tile that is low-maintenance and does not require regular sealing, then glazed tiles are a good option. If you are looking for a tile with a more natural look and feel, then unglazed natural terracotta tiles are a good choice.

In addition to the type of tile, the prep work for a steam shower is also very important. The backer board, shower liner, and water/vapor proof membranes must be installed properly in order to ensure the longevity of the steam shower.
