Manganese: During production, manganese pigment is mixed into the raw clay to alter its color. This results in a deeper, darker shade throughout the tile. Since color and shade variations are common from batch to batch, it can be challenging to predict the exact outcome. On the bright side, these tiles are more durable and require less maintenance over time.
Stain: The color of terracotta tiles can be darkened by applying a surface stain. This method offers greater control over the final color and is more cost-effective. However, if the tile gets chipped, the underlying red terracotta will be visible. The only solution to fix a chipped stain tile is to reapply more stain.
